The company was founded in 1953 as a re-packer of paint and lacquer thinners under the trade name Columbus. In 1960, the company acquired the license to manufacture Boysen Paints in the Philippines from the Walter N. Boysen Company of Oakland, California, USA, resulting to a comprehensive line of premium grade products. By 1970, Boysen captured the lion’s share of the premium quality paint market in the Philippines.

It is one of the first companies in the world to earn a third-party Lead-Safe Paint Certification from SCS Global Services. In 2021, Boysen launched its very own concept store, The Color Library, showcasing over 1,300 readily available colors. Boysen has been ranked 45th largest paint company by Coatings World in 2022.
